Shape Matters Most
When it comes to choosing the diamond that captures your heart and that which will be worn on your loving hands for a lifetime, look no further than its shape, settings and the famous four C’s (cut, colour, clarity and carat).
Dazzling diamonds come in many shapes: rectangle, round, oval, pear, marquise, or princess. The round diamond is still the most popular choice, due primarily to the evenness of its appearance on your hand. Ovals and marquise shape are growing in popularity, while other diamonds shapes include the princess and emerald, which are timeless.
An engagement ring’s setting is how the finished diamond is mounted. The most popular setting for an engagement ring is the solitaire as it shows beautifully your diamond in all its glory. The bezel setting wraps the arms of your preferred metal around the diamond to give it a more striking finish. A tiffany setting is the one for you if you want height, as its “prongs” raise the diamond upwards.
The level of light reflected by a diamond is emblematic of its cut, as well as its overall finish and brilliance. The conical-shaped ‘brilliant cut’ is the most sparkling of all.
Diamond engagement rings are most commonly brilliant and colourless, but there an A-Z spectrum of diamond colours. Diamonds exist in black, red, violet and even orange for those who seek to be different.
A diamond’s clarity refers to its natural characteristics present since its formation such as blemishes, spots or lines.
Most brides-to-be think of a diamond’s value in terms of its carat. A carat weighs about 200mg and naturally, the more carats in a diamond, the heavier it is and therefore the higher its value.
