Groom

MENSWEAR TRENDS

The Groom is absolutely the most important man at the wedding and despite the expected fanfare about the Bride`s beauty and attire; the Groom must also look the part to perfectly match his perfect Bride.

The classic styles remain king for Grooms. A morning suit fits the bill for men who like tradition. This consists of a penguin dress coat, a top hat and tails. The coat is usually navy blue, black or grey and trousers can be either plain or pinstriped. Wear it with a white wing collared shirt and a cravat for a classic handsome look.

If you`re a traditional Groom, but have more simple tastes, go for Black Tie. With a single or double-breasted black dinner jacket, a cotton or silk evening shirt and well-polished black shoes, this look provides just the right formal touch. Wear it with a colour waistcoat and bow tie to add an individual twist.  To really jazz it up, go for cuff links to add a taste of your personality (also the perfect Bride`s gift).

The Groomsmen and Father of the Bride usually take their cue from the Groom and wear similar outfits. You can add a fancy cravat or waistcoat if you want to look different, but usually it`s best if all the men look similar for the wedding photographs. This is also important for any colour-scheming or other themes running through the wedding.

Our menswear fashion advertisers here in this section have been telling us about the trends they are noticing.  Firstly, men still have traditional tastes in outfits, but like to add a touch of individuality with a cravat or waistcoat and they like to match the bridesmaids. Men still like traditional outfits, but they`re moving away from the classic outfits, but are still going for a formal look.

Secondly, the fit has become more important than the style. They are opting for a three quarter length jacket which gives them a more tailored look. Men going abroad for weddings are favouring brown and cream outfits to match the warmer weather on offer.

For wedding guests, a suit is the best and safest option. Don`t go for anything too flashy, or you may upstage the Groom! You might like to wear clothes which match your partner`s, but don`t go overboard. Navy suits are popular and the advice is to go for light rather than heavy stripes. Team it up with a plain tie for a simple and tasteful look.

There`s great advice from Grooms-to-be so ask for plenty of it to be the ultimate Prince Charming!
